Decomposed Granite

Decomposed Granite

Decomposed Granite, commonly referred to as “DG” is another paving alternative material used in patios, walkways, driveways bocce ball courts and heavy use urban paths.

It is a granite rock material that readily fractures and has weathered down to a small grain mix of gravel, sand and silt sized particles. The granular blend is precisely screened to specific sizes and can be used as a beautiful, natural, earthy colored paving material.

For Patios and Pathways limited to foot traffic the DG is placed and machined compacted to a minimum depth of 3″. For driveways or vehicular roadways the DG is placed and compacted to a minimum depth of 4″.

With the many Gold and Tan color varieties and after grading the surface of the DG perfectly smooth, It makes for a beautiful natural setting! We often use it in our Native Plant Garden Designs and it looks spectacular together!

We recommend a “Stabilized” Decomposed Granite. This is a DG which has been blended with a stabilizer organic binder. This is a DG that holds up well to rain and resists the weather better. There are also G5 Liquid Stabilizers that can be applied to the surface of your smoothly graded Decomposed Granite paving that helps bind the crushed granules into a rock hard durable surface.

We have installed DG in parks, schools, urban pathways and in residential homes and we use one of the best blends available! Don’t get stuck with inferior blends that will wash away with the first rains. Our stabilizers are the highest rated for long lasting durability and our favorite color is “California Gold”.
